NFB-NEWSLINEŽ READY-REFERENCE GUIDE

 

          From any touch-tone telephone, call the NFB-NEWSLINEŽ at 1-888-882-1629.  Using the telephone keypad, punch in your ID code and the security number that you were given when you signed up for NFB-NEWSLINEŽ.

 

To begin reading, Press:

 

1 - for NFB-NEWSLINEŽ announcements

 

2 - for Your Local Information

 

3 - for Your Newspapers (local to your state) 

 

4 - for Your Favorites

 

5 - for ALL NFB-NEWSLINEŽ content 

 

6 - to continue reading at your previous place in NFB-NEWSLINEŽ

 

9 - for the NFB-NEWSLINEŽ tutorial

 

 

          After selecting a category, you can choose from newspapers or topics.  The NFB-NEWSLINEŽ service holds today's newspaper, yesterday's newspaper, and the most recent Sunday edition if one is published.  

 

          After selecting the paper you wish to read, the system will prompt you to select the topic you wish to read (for example, Sports, Editorial, News, etc.)

 

NFB-NEWSLINEŽ Keypad Commands:

 

          When in an article, use these key commands to navigate through NFB-NEWSLINEŽ:   

 

1 - Return to beginning of topic

 

2 - Reread current article

 

3 - Move to next article

 

4 - Read previous line or paragraph

 

5 - Read current line 

 

6 - Read next line 

 

7 - Slow down speaking speed

 

8 - Change speaking voice

 

9 - Speed up speaking speed

 

0 - Pause

 

0, 0, - Voice Mode:  

                   1 or 3 - Adjust the volume 

                   4 or 6 - Change the pitch 

 

# - Help Mode for the current menu

 

#, 5 - Spell (follow the directions)

 

#, # - Search-for-a-word or phrase (follow the directions)

 

* - Go back one menu

 

*, * - Hang up  

Your Favorites
 

          To personalize your reading choices, you may want to take advantage of the Favorites option.  You may save up to six newspapers in this menu.  Press 4 to enter Your Favorites.

 

          When you first enter Your Favorites, you have 3 choices:

 

 

                7 - Add an item

 

                8 - Delete an item

 

                9 - Erase all newspapers from Your Favorites list

 

 

          To begin the process of adding newspapers to Your Favorites, press 7.  A list of newspapers will be presented in alphabetical order in groups of eight.  Follow the instructions to select the paper you wish to add.  Press 9 during the list of newspapers to advance to the next group of eight papers.

 

 

 

 

Search Mode
 

To enter the Search feature, you must be in an article.  Press the pound key (#) twice, then follow the instructions.  Search Mode will search the entire newspaper you are in to find your key word or phrase. 

 

Keep in mind that your key word or phrase may appear in one article more than once.  NFB-NEWSLINEŽ may tell you there were 10 matches for your search, but all ten could be in the same article.

As you enter each pair of digits, NFB-NEWSLINEŽ will announce the entered letter or number.  If NFB-NEWSLINEŽ does find the key word you have entered, it will start reading at the beginning of the article in which it found your key word.  NFB-NEWSLINEŽ will tell you the section and the article with the key word or phrase.  If it does not find your key word, it will resume reading where you were.
